Fix for Android 4.3 Update For Samsung Galaxy S3 Performance Issues

Like people all over the world MoreComputers.com have been affected by the recent Android 4.3 Update For Samsung Galaxy S3. After a lot of trial and error we've hit on a part fix and wanted to share it.

We've just disabled the Smart Stay and Smart Rotation Options - the performance is MUCH better and the lag is greatly reduced.

On your Samsung Galaxy S3 go to Settings > MyDevice (2nd option from the bottom) and disable these features.

Hope that helps you.

***Updates***

We've had some feedback from other S3 owners who understandably are trying anything to get their phones working. Here are their suggestions (We'll add to the list as and when we get new tips): Please post any successes or tips in the comments.

Switching lock screen off altogether seems to help

Disabling the 2X Battery app improved the lag noticeably

Disabling accuweather auto update

Disabling in Settings as many of the Samsung apps as possible improves performance by decreasing the memory footprint. It does look like these issues are mainly to do with memory management - the less free memory, the worse the problems.

Disable bloatware - people have found this article useful: apps safe to remove

Solves lock screen, gallery and music problems install the Kitkat home launcher

  1. I did notice my smart stay eye was perminantly showing. Home button seems quicker since disabling however the responsiveness of my keyboard is still slow. Thanks for the tip tho, has eased the pain. Does anyone know if Samsung or Android have made an official comment on this and if they are working on a fix

  2. Their Twitter feed just keeps saying "we are currently investigating the reported issues with Galaxy S3 4.3 Jelly Bean update & will update everyone ASAP" and "we are sorry to hear of the issues being reported, rest assured we're working hard to address them. Thanks for bearing with us".

  3. Many of the bugs reported in 4.3 seem to have skipped my handset, apart from the battery drain which was never brilliant anyway. THE big complaint I have of 4.3 is Bluetooth - I can't get the phone to work with my car kit anymore. This terrible state of affairs has to be resolved quickly.

  4. I spoke to Samsung this morning, and was told to do a factory reset. Sigh.

    1. If you was told to take battery out for at least 40 mins then fully charge phone. then do a factory reset. Don't work. Problem remains. Battery drain and sluggish screen. Although, it did clean up memory though

  5. I've done a factory reset, and it hasn't resolved my performance problems.

  6. I updated to 4.3, and had said problems... I was very disappointed, so I decided to root The phone and install a ROM. Unluckily, I hadn't read you can't go down from 4.3, as you cannot to a signal. I then downloaded the stock ROM 4.3, Deleted and reset. I have a Samsung up date which I really am refusing to install , switched off the lock screen, all the above mentioned features.

The battery life is a lot better, the phone is quick . .. This will do until Samsung sort out the 4.3 update.

    1. The problem with getting a signal is because there was a change to the format of some information on the SIM card during 4.1.2. If you go earlier than the MG4 update then you will have problems but installing MG4 should be ok (although you will need a factor reset afterwards)

  9. It does look like these issues are mainly to do with memory management - the less free memory, the worse the problems. And there's only about 832MB of available memory on mine, of which 650 / 700MB is in use.

I've found that disabling in Settings as many of the Samsung apps as possible improves performance by decreasing the memory footprint, in my case to about 520MB. Very little lag evident now, music playback is better, but not perfect, and battery life is better but not back to normal.

I've read that Samsung has indicated that a fix could be "up to 15 days" away. Pathetic. Why don't they offer a roll back to 4.1.2 meantime? I'd try Cyanogenmod, but I'm nervous of bricking it.

  10. For Samsung s3 try to disable wireless and data cell, and use it just like phone. In my case worked very good, but I hope that Samsung will fix this problem very soon, if I wanted just a phone I would have bought Nokia 3310 , hope this helps. Have a great night

  12. 4.3 is full of mentioned faults, with the bluetooth being a problem for me not accessing my devices. I wish I never updated my S# with this alarming defective software Has Samsung let go all their QA testers? I for one feel this version should never have left their office. Is their CEO named Bill ..by any chance?

  13. I updated my UK S3 to 4.3 around 3 weeks ago, and its been all but useless since. However, this morning it has indicated that it is queueing for a further update.... can it be that a fix is close?

  14. I got the 4.3 update yesterday morning(SPH-L710). Been fighting it with all the issues listed. After several factory wipes, my problems do not exist UNTIL I "Make it Google". Problem starts immediately. Skip the Google registration and it works quite well.

    Hope this helps.
